School Medication Policy

Students may not carry medications while in school with the exception of inhalers and epipens, however the proper documentation must be on file in the nurse's office.   

MEDICATION POLICY

Dear Parents:

 It is recommended that medicines be given at home whenever possible. However, if a child must take a daily sustaining dose of medicine, it may be arranged with the school nurse in the following manner:

1. Medication is brought to the school by a parent.

2. Medication is in a pharmacy labeled bottle with the prescribing doctor’s name on it.

3. Parent signs a written request giving permission to administer the medication as prescribed by the physician.

 This policy has been established to ensure that no child receives medications which are not properly prescribed. If a non-prescription medicine must be administered during school hours, the following procedure must be implemented.

 1. Medication must be brought to school in the original package.

2. Parent must complete a medication card to give permission to administer the medication.

3. The card will be kept on file in the nurse’s office for the respective school year only.

4. The medication will be labeled and kept in the nurse’s office, by the school nurse.

  ****PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS POLICY IS EFFECTIVE FOR ALL MEDICATIONS INCLUDING TYLENOL, ASPIRIN, and ADVIL, ETC.

 Inhalers and Epipens may be carried by individual students, however, the proper documentation must be provided to the nurse. You may check our websites for the forms that need to be on file. It is recommended that an extra inhaler is kept in the nurse’s office even if a student carries their own inhaler in case it is needed.
