Miller Ted
Flags: flexpage,
Hello everyone, my name is Ted Miller and I am a new Business Teacher at the high school this 2022-2023 school year. As a Philadelphia-area native (graduating from Wissahickon 15 years ago), and upholding a passion for teaching, I am thrilled to become an educator at the high school and to join the Lower Moreland staff and community!
I graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a business degree in Finance and Supply Chain Management, and began working for Aon Corporation, in the Insurance Consulting industry. After a few years with the Fortune-500 company, I started working for a private consulting firm, Conner Strong & Buckelew. Although I worked alongside great people, developed strong friendships and built a positive rapport with the firm, I reached a point where I realized it just wasn’t my calling.
I knew I wanted to work with young adults, so I became the Volunteer Assistant Coach of Temple University’s Cross Country and Track & Field teams. I ran Cross Country and Track in high school and then went on to compete for Pitt, which shaped my desire to work within the NCAA. After a year at Temple, I moved to Las Cruces, New Mexico to take over as the Director of Operations of the Cross Country and Track & Field teams at New Mexico State University. During my tenure, I achieved my Masters in Curriculum & Instruction, as well.
During my two-year stint at NMSU, I was fortunate to maintain a strong relationship with my previous employer, Conner Strong & Buckelew, which allowed me to work with them as a general contractor when I had availability during Winter and Summer breaks. They flew me around the country to conduct meetings with their clients on their behalf. I really enjoyed teaching in a nontraditional environment. Of course, it didn’t hurt that I had trips like a week-long trip to California in June, where I had the opportunity to soak-in sunny Southern California’s beautiful weather and drive along the Pacific Coast Highway!
After my time in New Mexico, I decided to pursue a career that I always hoped I would one day fulfill: to become a High School Business Teacher. To do this, I attended Bloomsburg University to achieve my Masters in Business Education and obtain my teaching certificate.
My goal as a teacher is to help students use higher-order thinking in the classroom, but prepare them for life outside the classroom and beyond high school too. I have entered the teaching profession to make the greatest impact in motivating young adults to realize and chase their goals. I am so excited to begin teaching here at Lower Moreland!
I love everything Philadelphia, and I am an avid fan of all of the city’s sports teams, especially the Sixers. My fiancé and I live in Fairmount and always enjoy exploring the city. We are thrilled to get married this October!
